TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN/INTEREST, few simple reminders regarding disadvantages of partial names and advantages of full names. Posted by Engineer (male) KhalidMahmood on November 28 of 2024, Updated on February 06 of 2026.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN/INTEREST

I was many times addressed by people by my incomplete partial name. I have reminded people several times in the past and reminding again that I must be addressed by my complete name “خالد محمود” as shown here in original script of my name in my mother language URDU, which is phonetically translated as “KHALIDMAHMOOD” for English speaking people and international environments. It is illegal to break up some ones name to make two individuals (due to the intentions behind it). For legal purposes one should always use complete name with ID# and try NOT to mess up others by propagating wrong and incomplete names and information.

When try to identify people without complete names (or partial name), people will always try all sort of countless combinations and permutations to figure out who is who by making hypothetical complete names picked up from the computer memory (i.e. virtual beings) because of the guess work instead of definite positive identification.

To avoid this kind of confusions again and again in present or in future I am requesting every one again to address me by my complete name.

This request applies to all situations when people talk about me or refer to me for any reason in my absence or presence or over the phone to a third party, please use my complete name {KhalidMahmood}.

In Pakistan/Saudi Arabia Mr. was used with my first/given name. In Canada/US/Netherlands/Japan Mr. was used with my last/family name. This custom or cultural practice does not make me two individuals. That’s why it would be more meaning full and logical to to use Mister with my complete name {KhalidMahmood}.  In my opinion this applies to every one. This practice of using Mr. with first name in some countries and Mr. with last name in some other countries for the same perdon will make it look like change of name. But in reality there was no change of name.

(one suggestion to IT and database administrators, forms designers that they should consider to use Given name instead of First name and Family name instead of Last name to add clarity to the parts of the name.) some less knowledgable people might consider first and last as the positional properties of a name as what comes first and what comes last.

Something to think about.

خالد محمود
