Difference between change due back and giving money back/taking money back etc. at retail POS terminals, updated in Ottawa Ontario Canada on July 19 of 2024 by {Khalid Mahmood}

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN/INTEREST

I wrote about this matter in the past as well, I make an effort to pay by exact amount at retail and other businesses (or use card), but there were times when exact amount was not available and the bank note used was more than the transaction amount, in that case I wait for change due back. Accepting of change due back is NOT considered taking money by the customer or giving money to the customer by the cashier at POS etc., So the onlookers or observers around should try to describe situations precisely and honestly and not suppress the reason behind such transactions and the receipts. Or else they should not speak about such situations if they do not understand very well or do not want to tell the truth.

I am not a tax/cash collector of any organization, such terms/words would probably make sense if someone was collecting cash/tax on behalf of some one, I am not, I never was. I am using my own money for purchases and to support myself which I get out of my bank account.

An example of giving money would be parents to children and vice versa, among family members, or gift giving among friends and family etc. which does not require a transaction at the register or which does not require shopping, merchandise, receipts etc.

So when cashiers at the checkout registers use the words “gave money to customers” i.e. because of their limitations to convey correct information, may be correct grammatically according to English language, but completely wrong, out of context, because in the context of business transaction cashiers do not give money to customers/clients, they just return the change due which can be verified on the receipts. Customers pay the cashiers, before cashiers return the change due to the customers.
