Counting fingers and thumbs in every day conversation and for biometrics machines, as I learned at the Dammam airport. Posted December 28 of 2023.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN/INTEREST

In every day normal conversation we count 10 fingers (5 fingers of each hand). But for biometrics machines fingers and thumbs are counted separately (most likely because thumbs and fingers are of different lengths), so I learned from the Visa lady at the Dammam airport on December 16 of 2023, who guided me through this process. (Although they could take a full hand image i.e. fingers plus palm, perhaps in future).

Later on when I purchased a SIM card from a mobile company Zain in the arrivals hall after all the formalities, I was asked to put one of my fingers on a reader and it was approved and/or documented immediately. (Some how my first name was misspelled on the text message which was sent to me by mobile company Zain, not a complicated matter, can be and will be fixed next time. I have informed them about it.).

I liked this biometrics system at the airport because it removes ambiguity from the transaction. Now my Zain mobile number is physically linked to me and my records in Saudi Arabia, not just by ID numbers or papers, which swindlers can claim or confuse people by asking irrelevant and childish questions.
